TSS signs deal with Siemens to assemble cellphone sets

A deal for assembling mobile phone sets at Telephone Shilpa Sangstha was signed here yesterday between the TSS and multinational cellphone company Siemens Bangladesh.

Managing Director of the state-owned TSS Eunus Ali Mollah and Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of the Siemens Bangladesh Ltd Christian Laufer signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of their respective sides.

Secretary of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and Chairman of the TSS Board of Directors Mahmud Hasan Mansur along with Chairman, BTTB, CEO, Siemens Bangladesh Ltd, and other high officials of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, Ministry of Finance, Bangladesh T&T Board, Siemens and TSS were present.

"This is for the first time, during the period of this government, mobile telephone sets are going to be assembled locally in Bangladesh," said an official announcement.

BTTB is providing about a million mobile phones in the country in addition to 32.5 lakh provided by different private companies. In the first phase, BTTB will provide 2.5 lakh mobile phones "very soon".
