55 appointment in Bagerhat stayed

The High Court has stayed for three months the appointment of 55 employees under the deputy commissioner of Bagerhat.

A division bench comprising Justice Joynul Abedin and Justice Zubair Rahman Chowdhury on November 1 passed the order following a writ petition. Mosharef Hossain, son of freedom fighter Rustam Ali of Kaldia village, and Abul Hasan, son of freedom fighter Mohammad Ali of Korhamara village, filed the writ.

The HC also asked the secretaries of the establishment and land ministries and the deputy commissioner of Bagerhat to show cause in three weeks why the appointments will not be cancelled.

The petitioners alleged authorities deprived them of the job, though 30 percent of the posts were reserved for children of the freedom fighters.
