Sheikh Nasir Ahmed defeated Spain's Diez Asonsio Jesus in the first round of the Calvia Open Chess Festival in Calvia, Spain on Monday.

The FIDE Master, who represented the Bangladesh chess team in the recently concluded 36th Chess Olympiad stayed back in Spain for the 9-round Swiss League competition.

The other members of the Bangladesh team, which finished 41st in the Olympiad, returned home on Monday.
