Govt urged to check noise pollution

Speakers at a meeting called on the government to take necessary steps to check increasing noise pollution that are causing hearing loss for the city dwellers.

The worst victims of noise pollution are children, students, drivers and traffic police, said Amit Ranjan, project officer of Working for A Better Bangladesh.

He was speaking at a meeting organised by the Noise Pollution Prevention Coordination Committee at Dhanmondi in the city on Wednesday.

Quoting a study conducted on 312 people, he said 11 percent of them have been suffering from serious hearing disabilities because of noise pollution and 66 percent have developed moderate hearing impairment.
