Police on alert in Nilphamari for Bangla Bhai

Police in all six thanas of Nilphamari district have been put on alert amid speculation and newspaper report that Bangla Bhai, dreaded operation commander of the Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB), is hiding somewhere in the district.

Superintendent of Police Chowdhury Abdullah-Al-Mamun said he received information from unofficial sources that Bangla Bhai is staying in shoal areas in the Teesta river in Dimla upazila and he had meetings with his accomplices there.

"But the tip-off could not be confirmed. We have assigned our intelligence men to gather correct information," he added.

The SP also sought cooperation from the newsmen in finding the hideout of Bangla Bhai.

A police source said police are in close contact with the law enforcing agencies in neighbouring Lalmonirhat district as the shoals have stretched up to that district.

Sources said local people have seen unknown people moving in the remote shoal areas of Chhatunama and Vendabari of Dimla upazila but they disappeared after police became active.
