Close Up-1 talent hunt on realm of poetry and T-shirt designing

Has anyone ever thought of 'fried breeze' or 'smashed dew with murmuring rice'? Or ever tried 'sunshine bread' with 'gravy of rainbow', or 'rain yoghurt'? And this is for sure, no one ever imagines of a glass of 'chilled moonlight' instead of Coke! But Murtala Ramat, a youth from Dhaka University, can imagine these 'absurd' things in his poem Esho Swaad Nei, Jiboner.Ramat snatched the first prize in the poetry competition of Joley Otho Chhai Chapa Agun!, a programme to discover young talents in poetry and T-shirt designing, organised by Close Up of Lever Brothers Bangladesh Limited. Humaira Hasin Sadia won the 1st position in the designing category. The final round of the 2nd Close Up-1 talent hunt was recently held at the Winter Garden of Hotel Sheraton. This year's theme was Jiboner Swaad (the Taste of Success). Out of hundreds of participants the panel of judges picked out 10 finalists in each category. There were separate panels of judges for poetry and designing. Led by eminent poet Rafiq Azad, other members of the panel for poetry were Nirmalendu Goon, Mahadev Saha, Ruby Rahman and Nurul Huda. On the other hand, famous designer Nahid Moin led the designers' panel comprising Sharmin Hasan, Emdad Haque, Farah Anjum Bari and Khaled Mahmud Khan. Three best poems were selected before the programme by the judges, while the judges chose the best three T-shirts displayed by models in a catwalk. Sadia's white T-shirt canvases the chronology of human life expressed through motifs of balloon, kite, cigarette, looking glasses, book, footsteps and many others. Usage of vertical and horizontal lines and vibrant colours on white background made the T-shirt different from others. In poetry composition, Sayed Taufiq Juhary secured 1st runner-up while Mahbubul Kabir was the 2nd runner-up for their poems Jal Shankho and Jiboner Swaad. In T-shirt designing, Azimun Akhtar Sonali became the 1st runner-up for her design with colourful flower motifs while Miraz Mahmud was the 2nd runner-up with his lemon and white contrast design. The most interesting part of the show was the poetry presentation, directed by theatre personality Khaled Khan and dancer Tamanna Rahman. Asaduzzaman Noor, Shimul Mustafa, Shahiduzzaman Selim and Sharmin Lucky recited five selected poems of the participants. On the other hand, a splendid catwalk of the T-shirts by top models as well as the designers was also noteworthy. Choreographed by renowned model Tupa, the whole programme was telecast live on Channel-i. Last but not the least, was the enthralling performance by popular alternative band Black. It was a wonderful evening with full of young talents. Also the organisers deserve appreciation for their punctuality.
