This day in 1966, when the land was ruled by Pakistani strongman Ayub Khan, AL leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had placed a six-point set of demands including provincial autonomy in course of a democratic movement.

AL offices across the country will start the day at 5:30am through hoisting of party and national flags.

In Dhaka, the party will place floral wreaths before the portrait of Sheikh Mujib at Bangabandhu Smriti Museum at 8am and hold a discussion at the auditorium of Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh at 3pm.

AL President Sheikh Hasina, in a message on the occasion, said the historic June 7 came this time around with the message for waging "an irresistible united movement of patriotic-democratic forces for establishing a democratic government and the rule of law". She urged all classes of people to stand united in a movement against what she termed as 'the oppressive and autocratic government of the BNP-Jamaat alliance'.
