Ex-BPC chairman, Jamuna Oil GM sent to jail

A Chittagong court yesterday rejected interim bail petition for a former Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) chairman and an ex-general manager (GM) of Jamuna Oil Company Limited in a graft case and sent them to jail.The Court of Metropolitan Sessions Judge Fazlul Karim sent M Anwar Hossain, ex-BPC chairman, and Nurul Amin Khan, former GM of Jamuna Oil, to jail after hearing on the case, sources said. The court also summoned ex-BPC Secretary Babul Majumder, incumbent deputy secretary of finance ministry, for hearing in the same case, they added. Bureau of Anti-Corruption, Chittagong official ABM Mahbub filed the case with Double Mooring Police Station on June 19, 2002 accusing the BPC and Jamuna Oil officials of embezzling over Tk 2.53 crore from Jamuna Oil fund. According to case details, the accused abused power in paying registration fee of Tk 2,53,75,244 for a 13-acre Jamuna Oil land, which was sold out to Mobil-Jamuna Lubricant Limited in April 26, 1999.
