Rakib takes solo lead


International Master Abdullah Al-Rakib took solo lead in the Leonine second Grand Master chess tournament at the NSC conference room yesterday.

Rakib earned 3.5 points after beating Indian counterpart Dinesh Kumar Sharma and Krishna Thapa of Nepal at the end of the third and fourth round games respectively.

IM Enamul Hossain Rajib and GM Sandipan Chanda of India were in the second position with 3 points each.

In the third round, Rakib beat IM Dinesh Kumar Sharma, IM Enamul Hossain Rajib beat IM Reefat Bin Sattar, GM Nguan Anh Dung beat GM Alexander Fominyh of Russian, IM Lanka Ravi beat Krishna Thapa, GM Niaz Murshed drew with Sandipan and GM Ziaur Rahman drew with Abdul Maleq.

In the fourth round, Rakib beat Krishna, Sandipan beat Maleq, Rajib drew with Dinesh, Zia beat Reefat, Niaz drew with Nguan and Fominyh drew with Lanka.
