5 Haripur Power Plant officials robbed in N'ganj

Robbers looted cash and valuables worth over Tk 4.5 lakh by stopping a microbus at Muradpur in Narayanganj on Sunday night.

The incident took place when five officials of Haripur Barge Mounted Power Plant were returning to Dhaka in a rented microbus (Dhaka Metro-Ga 13-0487) at 11.30pm.

Selim Hawlader, driver of the microbus, stopped the vehicle when he found a barricade on the road at a place just 100 metres away from the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

About 15 masked robbers, armed with lethal weapons, suddenly swooped on the officials and asked them to hand over their valuables.

The robbers decamped with four mobile phones, one gold ring, one wristwatch and cash worth over Tk 4.55 lakh in the same vehicle.

Selim filed a case with Bandar Police Station in this regard yesterday.

Police could neither recover the looted valuables nor the vehicle till filing of this report at 8.30 last night.
