Charges framed against Hazari, 12 others in Tipu case
The Court of Additional District Magistrate (ADM) yesterday framed charges against former Awami League lawmaker Joynal Abedin Hazari and 12 of his accomplices for assaulting journalist Tipu Sultan.
The 12 are former secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League local unit Shahjahan Shaju, Bedan Majumder Suman, Rezaul Karim Milky, Rezanur Masud, Chhoto Arju, Taslim, Sharifullah, Ashraf Uddin Rubel, Kohiroor Alam, Shamsul Alam Babul, Swapan and Shohag.
Court sources said ADM Mobizul Islam framed the charges.
Hazari reportedly fled the country, six of the accused are absconding and six others are on bail.
Tipu Sultan was brutally assaulted allegedly by Hazari's cadres on January 25, 2001.
He suffered multiple fractures in his hands. Tipu filed a case on January 28 accusing Hazari and the others.
Tipu underwent treatment in Bangkok, funded from Tipu Chikithsa Tahabil created by The Daily Star and the Prothom Alo.
