The Greater Chittagong Devel-opment Action Committee will enforce an eight-hour hartal in the district Thursday in its efforts to realise several points of demand.

The key points of the demand are upgrading Chittagong city to a commercial capital in true sense, improvement of law and order and preference to Moheshkhali in Cox's Bazar as the site for proposed deep seaport. The hartal will start at 6:00am.

The committee leaders in a press statement yesterday evening said infrastructure required to turn the port city into the commercial capital is yet to be developed and law and order downslide posed a threat to normal life.

They pointed to abduction of Chittagong magnate Jamal Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury and abduction and murder of millionaire businessman Rezaur Rahman.

They accused the ministers from Chittagong of failing to unite in lifting Chittagong out of the poor state of development.
