Opening batsman Hannan Sarker and right-arm fast bowler Mashrafee-bin-Mortuza celebrated their birthdays at the national camp at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.Hannan marked his 21st birthday while young Mashrafee turned 20. Both the young Tigers cut cakes at the dressing room after the first day of the fielding practice. Talking to the reporters, both cricketers assured that they would give their best in the upcoming series against England. "I have learned a lot in the previous series against Australia and Pakistan. I'm going to try even harder this time on home soil. I want to score runs for my country," said Hannan, the right-hander, who said that he has arranged a party at a Chinese restaurant later in the evening. On the other hand, Mashrafee is missing his family back in Narail. But he admitted that the home series against England would be crucial for him. "I know I did not do well in Pakistan when the whole team performed. I will have to make that up in the coming series. And I'm mentally and physically ready for that," he said. Meanwhile, the first day of the two-day fielding session proved to be very demanding for the players at the big bowl. Coach Dav Whatmore concentrated mainly on close fielding. He used half the ground for cricketers to practice throwing down the stumps. Weather permitting the nets will start from tomorrow.
