Workers' Party, CPB extend support to strike in Khulna

Left-leaning political parties yesterday extended their support to the 48-hour strike called by the laid-off workers of three jute mills in Khulna.

The workers called the strike in Khulna industrial area on August 27 and 28 demanding reopening of all mills and factories including People's, Eastern and Star Jute Mills.

In a statement, president of Workers' Party of Bangladesh Rashed Khan Menon and secretary general Bimal Bishwas strongly criticised the government for laying off workers and employees of the three jute mills.

The leaders called on the government to reopen the mills immediately.

In another statement, the Communist Party of Bangladesh condemned the government move to close down the mills one after another as a bid to ruin the economy.

The Jatiya Sramik Federation also extended their full support to the strike.

It urged the government to withdraw its decision to close down the three jute mills.
