Minister warns against corruption in relief distribution
The government will continue to allocate adequate relief materials for the flood-hit people to ensure that none dies of starvation.
Disaster Management and Relief Minister Chowdhury Kamal Ibne Yusuf gave the assurance at separate rallies while visiting the flood affected areas in Sadar, Raiganj, Ullapara and Shahjadpur upazilas of the district yesterday.
He warned that corruption in the distribution of relief materials would not be tolerated.
The minister distributed rice among the destitute families.
State Minister for Power Iqbal Hasan Mahmud and Abdul Manann Talukdar MP accompanied the relief minister.
Necessary steps would be taken to repair the flood-damaged cross dams, Kamal Ibne Yusuf said and directed the officials concerned to shift the flood-affected people to shelter centres and other high places.
He asked the officials to take preparations 'from right now' so that they could start rehabilitation work immediately with the recession of floodwaters.
On Thursday, the relief minister also visited the affected areas in Sadar upazila and distributed relief among the flood victims.
