2 killed over land disputes in Netrakona, Sunamganj
Two people were killed over land disputes in Atpara upazila of Netrakona and Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj districts on Monday night.
Our Netrakona correspondent reported that a woman was killed and 10 others were injured as two groups of people clashed at Palgaon village in Atpara upazila over a disputed land on Monday night.
The dead was identified as Suborna Akther, wife of Abdul Rob of the village.
Police and local people said there had been a longstanding dispute between Abdul Rob and Alauddin over a land at the village. Following an altercation between the two over the disputed land at around 7:00pm, Alauddin and his men attacked the houses of Abdul Rob and his supporters, prompting them to retaliate.
During the clash, Rob's wife Suborna was killed on the spot while 10 others from both sides were injured. The injured were admitted to the upazila Health Complex.
Rob filed a murder case with Atpara Police Station yesterday morning, accusing Alauddin and his men. No one was arrested as of 5:00pm yesterday.
Our Moulvibazar correspondent adds: A man was stabbed to death by his nephew over a land dispute at Jhigli village in Chhatak Upazila of Sunamganj at around 7:00pm on Monday.
The dead was identified as Abdul Quayum, 39, son of late Shamsu Miah of the village.
Shahjalal Munshi, officer-in-charge of Chhatak Police Station quoted locals as saying that Quayum and his nephew Farhan Miah, 20, son of Suhel Miah, locked in an altercation over the ownership of a piece of land at the village.
At one stage, Farhan stabbed his uncle Quayum, leaving him critically injured. He was admitted in Sunamganj Sadar Hospital and then referred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where the doctor declared him dead.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Quayum's wife filed a case with Chhatak Police Station, accusing Farhan, who had gone into hiding soon after filing of the case.
