2 killed in Ctg socks factory fire

Two workers of a socks factory in Shitaljharna area of Chittagong city were killed in a fire at the factory yesterday.
The dead are Md Arafat Rani of Chandpur and Md Iftekhar of Khulna.
 Md Mostafa, Rani's uncle, said the fire started around 4:30pm and soon engulfed the tin-shed factory in which Rani and Iftekhar were sleeping.
Informed by locals, fire fighters rushed to the spot, rescued the two and sent them to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. The flames were doused by 5:30am, said Bishantar Barua, office assistant of Chittagong Fire Service and Civil Defence Office.
Rani and Iftekar succumbed to their injuries at CMCH. The bodies were sent for autopsies.
According to fire service officials, the damage caused by the fire was Tk 3 lakh.
Meanwhile, a garment factory, four tin-shed shops and a rickshaw garage were gutted in separate fire incidents in the city yesterday.   
In Chawk Bazar area, a fire gutted the first floor of the garment factory “Fashion Park International Ltd”.
The fire originated from an electric short circuit around 3:00am.
A rickshaw garage and four shops were gutted in another fire incident in Akber Shah area.
The fire also originated from an electric short circuit at around 6:40am. The fire fighters doused the fire by 8:40am.
