2 cops hurt in Rajshahi blasts, ballots torched in Ctg
Two policemen were injured as opposition activists exploded 12 bombs at a polling centre in Paba upazila of Rajshahi this evening.
Meanwhile, two ballot-carrying pickups were torched in Satkania upazila of Chittagong while three vehicles in Gazipur.
A presiding officer was injured in an attack on a polling station in Pirgachha upazila in Rangpur while BNP activists in Comilla hijacked ballot boxes from a polling centre this evening.
In Tangail, miscreants attacked Simla Public School polling center and snatched away over 1700 ballot papers this evening.
RAJSHAHI
A group of 12-15 activists of BNP and its key allay, Jamaat-e-Islami, in a sudden attack blasted 10 crude bombs and two patrol bombs on Baya Govt Primary School polling centre premises around 6:30pm, said Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Shah Makhdum Police Station.
The two police constables on duty at the polling centre sustained splinter injuries. They were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Police detained two BNP activists with several crude bombs from the spot.
CHITTAGONG
Miscreants torched ballot papers and other election materials in Satkania upazila of Chittagong this afternoon.
The attackers also set fire to two pickup vans in Fakirhat area around 4:30pm while carrying ballots and other election materials for Sadaha Adarsha Mahila Madrasa polling centre, said Hafiz Akter, superintendent of police in Chittagong.
GAZIPUR
Opposition men torched three vehicles on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Sreepur upazila this evening.
A group of 30-40 Jamaat men set fire to a bus and a covered in Soydanamalikerbari area around 7:00pm, said Nazmul Islam, sub-inspector of Sreepur Police Station.
The opposition men also set a truck on fire in the upazila town at the same time, reports our Gazipur correspondent.
RANGPUR
Over 30 miscreants attacked Damur Chakla Dewan Saleh Madrasa polling centre with sticks and snatched ballot papers and ballot boxes from the centre around 7:00pm.
Presiding Officer Asad Ali and two Ansar and VDP members were inured in the attack, reports our Rangpur correspondent quoting Aleya Ferdous, upazila nirbahi officer of Pirganj upazila.
COMILLA
BNP activists in Monohorganj upazila hijacked five ballot boxes from a polling centre.
Mohammad Manik, 30, president of Soroshpur Jubo Dal and Mohammad Russel, 28, a Jubo Dal activists were injured as police opened fire during the incident, reports our Comilla correspondent.
BNP activists attacked Laxmanpur High School in the upazila, a centre for tomorrow’s election and snatched away five ballot boxes around 6:45pm, Harunur Rashid Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Monohorganj Police Station told The Daily Star.
The miscreants blasted at least ten crude bombs and police in reply opened fire, he said.
Extra law enforcers have been deployed in the centre after the incident, Harunur Rashid said.
TANGAIL
Over 30 miscreants attacked Simla Public School polling center in Gopalpur upazila and snatched away over 1700 ballot papers this evening, said Saleh Mohammed Tanvir, superintend of police in Tangail.
Two Ansar members were injuries as the attackers exploded a petrol bomb during the attack, reports our Tangail correspondent quoting the police official.
Miscreants also stormed into the Khamarpara Government Primary School polling center in Gopalpur upazila around 7:00pm and snatched away all 2869 ballot papers from there, said Tanzina Islam, upazila nirbahi officer in Gopalpur upazila.
