2 Bangladeshis die inhaling toxic fumes in UAE
Two Bangladeshi workers died after inhaling toxic fumes in a car polishing shop in the Sharjah city of United Arab Emirates (UAE) yesterday.
They were identified as Md Yusuf and Rabiul Islam, residents of Chittagong, AKM Mizanur Rahman, labour counsellor at Bangladesh Consulate in Dubia, told The Daily Star this afternoon.
“They were working legally in the shop owned by an Egyptian. On Tuesday afternoon, the accident occurred when our two nationals along with an Egyptian inhaled the toxic fumes,” he added.
Gulf News quoting a Sharjah police official reported that three foreign workers including the two Bangladeshis died as they were working in the shop without any safety measures.

“We found three people in a very critical condition and in distress and we helped them out of the shop, and transferred them to Al Kuwaiti Hospital where they were pronounced dead,” the police official told Gulf News.
He said initial investigations revealed that the workers had carried out their daily work without any safety measures.
“There should not be any laxity in safety procedures and such violations that risk workers’ lives attract severe punishments,” the police official added.
A case has been filed in this regard with Al Buhairah Police Station in Sharjah.
Sharjah police have recently run several awareness campaigns regarding exposure of workers to harmful fumes, whether in the form of pesticides or smoke, in a bid to avoid accidents.
