19 candidates in three upazilas lose deposits
Nineteen candidates in three upazilas of Brahmanbaria and Pirojpur districts have lost their security deposits for failure to get one-eighth of the cast votes in the respective posts in the upazila parishad election held on February 27.
Eleven out of 20 candidates for chairman, vice-chairman and vice-chairman (reserved for women) posts in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria have lost their security deposits, reports our correspondent.
The chairman candidates who have lost their deposits are Bilkis Begum, SAM Al Amin Arefin, Kutub Uddin, Joynal Uddin,Tajul Islam, and Mukhlesur Rahman.
The vice-chairman candidates losing deposits are Abu Sufian Siddiki, Jahir Uddin Ahmed, Joynal Abedin Raju, and Shahjahan Mia. Woman vice-chairman contestant Shirina Akhter has lost her security deposit.
BNP-backed candidate advocate Abdur Rahman was elected Sarail upazila parishad chairman. Sher Alam Mia (AL rebel) and BNP-backed Tahmina Akhter were elected vice-chairman and woman vice chairman.
In Pirojpur, eight out of 21 candidates in Kawkhali and Nazirpur upazilas have lost their security deposits as they got less than one-eighth of the cast votes in the respective posts in the upazila parishad polls, reports our correspondent.
The chairman candidates who have lost their deposit in Kawkhali upazila are AL-backed candidate Md Moniruzzaman Talukder, AL rebel candidate AKM Abdus Sohid, independent candidate Niami Mondol, and JP-Manju-backed candidate Md Humayun Kabir Talukder
Vice-chairman candidates losing deposits are Md Nurul Amin and Piaru Begum.
In Nazirpur upazila, AL rebel chairman candidate KM Enayet Hossain Khan and independent chairman candidate Dijdas Halder have lost their deposits.
