14 BNP-Jamaat men among 55 held in Jessore

Police arrested 55 people including 14 activists of main opposition BNP and its key ally Jamaat-e-Islami during an overnight drive in Jessore.

The six-hour drive from yesterday midnight was conducted on different criminal charges including the subversive activities unleashed during the recent spate of hartals and blockades, said Reshma Sharmin, assistant superintendent of police (ASP) in Jessore. 

The law enforcers raided all the eight upazilas of the district till 6:00am and arrested the people including 14 opposition men, the ASP said.

Of the arrestees, 10 people were from BNP while four from Jamaat, reports our Jessore correspondent quoting the police official.

The opposition men were arrested in connection with the subversive activities that occurred during recent waves of hartals and blockade in the district, the police official added.
