11 Shibir activists sent to jail
Different professionals yesterday demanded immediate punishment for those attacked some teachers of Chittagong University on Wednesday.
They raised the demands at a human chain formed by Peshajibi Samonnaya Parishad, Chittagong in front of Chittagong Press Club in the city.
The speakers also demanded that the authorities concerned ensure the security of CU teachers to and from the campus.
Prof Benu Kumar Dey, president of Chittagong University Teachers Association; Advocate Mejbah Uddin; cultural personality Ranajit Rakshit, among other, spoke on the occasion with Prof Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, president of the parishad, Chittagong in the chair.
Meanwhile, 11 Shibir men arrested over the attack were sent to jail after being produced before a Chittagong court yesterday, seeking a seven-day remand for each of them, said Hathazari police, adding that the court fixed Sunday for hearing on the remand.
At least 15 CU teachers were injured when Shibir activists allegedly hurled crude bombs at two buses carrying them near the campus Wednesday.
Shbir men under the banner of general students have been observing an indefinite strike since August 31 demanding that two CU dormitories, which were closed earlier following violence, be reopened.
