10 JU BCL men detained over extortion
Ten leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League of Jahangirnagar University unit were detained this afternoon for their alleged involvement with extortion.
Savar police picked up the BCL men as they stopped three buses of Hanif Paribahan on Dhaka-Aricha highway near the university around 5:00pm and demanded extortion from the transport company, reports our JU correspondent.
Following the incident, more than 200 law enforcers have been deployed on and around the campus to avert any untoward situation, said Shafiqul Islam, assistant superintendent of police (Savar circle).
Md Abdur Rahman, deputy information and research secretary of JU unit of BCL, is among the detainees.
Denying the allegation, Rahman claimed that they were trying to realise compensation for damaging a car of his relative by a bus of Hanif Paribahan yesterday.
