To music enthusiasts around the country, Minar Rahman has become a household name for his songs like Shada, Bandhu and Journey from his first album. Minar's music has brought him into the limelight, but he was working in the creative media long before his career in music took off. He started his journey as a cartoonist for Unmad when he was a student in class 10. Since then he has worked for various print media. The young talented artist was simultaneously writing lyrics and composing his own music. After two hit albums, Minar is all set to release his third album. This week we spoke to this talented cartoonist, singer and musician about different aspects of his creative journey.

Your Guru in Music
I don't have any guru or such in music. I took my keyboard classes when I was a student of class 8. But after three classes I did not continue the training and decided to learn by myself.

What do you Enjoy Being the Most
Being a cartoonist is very different from being a musician, both give me enough room to practice my creativity. I started very early as a cartoonist and published a comic series called Gablu in 2013. I derive happiness from both, however recently I could not give enough time for cartoon.

Inspiration
Tahsan bhai inspired me throughout my musical journey. Arnab, Mohiner Ghoraghuli, Anjan Dutt's music also encouraged me to do what I do.

The Change that You Would Like to See in the Music Industry
Besides getting social recognition, musicians in our country also struggle for recording protection and fair payment. The way we treat music as a sole career needs to be changed.

Significant Achievement
Last year I performed at a concert held at Rabindra Sharabar in front of an enormous crowd. As I started my performance, I found the crowd singing along to most of my songs that I played. When I played my song Shada, I discovered the crowd knew all the words, so I let it sing the chorus on its own. The love that I have received from my audience is the best achievement of my life.

Ongoing Project
Right now I have too many things that need to be done within the next month. My new album is about to be released in a month or two. Besides, I am working on my first novel which will be released at the book fair. Starting from the book cover, to the inside illustrations, I have done everything by myself.
