1,000 Rab men deployed to ensure security
Over 1,000 members of elite force Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have been deployed to maintain law and order situation ahead of tomorrow’s by-polls in Narayanganj-5 constituency.
The troops include members of dog squads and bomb disposal units.
The elite force, working since yesterday morning, will remain deployed in Narayanganj till Friday, Habibur Rahman, director of the Rab's (media wing), headquarters told the reporters at the Shaheed Minar at Chashara in Narayanganj city today.
According to an Election Commission order, Rab personnel will work mainly as mobile and striking forces in the by-polls, Rahman said at the press briefing.
Total 600 Rab personnel were deployed today and 400 more would join them shortly, he added.
The elite force will be providing protection to the voters during the election so that they can cast their votes without any disruption at 141 polling centres in the district, he added.
The personnel are ready to prevent any anarchy during the election, he said.
If anybody violates the code of conduct, legal action against him will be taken with coordination of other law enforcers, the Rab official said.
