Invest more in least developed countries: Minister
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali urged the development partners for increasing their investment in the least developed countries in infrastructure, energy, agriculture and ICT sector.
He also called for increasing investment in skill development of the weaker section of the society with emphasis on youth and women in the least developed countries.
The minister came up with the call at the annual ministerial meeting of the Least Developed Countries yesterday at the UN Headquarters on the sidelines of the 71st Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, said a press release of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The foreign minister also urged to deliver on their commitments in every sector and provide the least developed countries with support crucial for implementation of the SDGs, IPoA and other internationally agreed development goals.
“Bangladesh is rapidly marching towards the middle income threshold in consonance with its vision 2021 under the leadership of our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina”, the foreign minister shared with the dignitaries while attending the meeting.
The meeting was attended by a large number of ministers, senior government and UN officials, and permanent representatives including the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN Masud Bin Momen.
Bangladesh presidency was highly praised by the LDCs and their friends at the meeting chaired by the minister.
