Withdraw blockade before SSC exams, Nahid tells 20-party
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today called upon the BNP-led 20-party alliance to withdraw the ongoing nationwide blockade by three days considering the upcoming Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations.
“We urge the political parties to refrain from announcing such agitation programmes that disrupt examination,” the minister said while addressing a press briefing at his office at the Secretariat this morning.
His remarks come ahead of the SSC and its equivalent examinations that are scheduled to begin on February 2.
Around 14, 79,266 examinees from 27,808 educational institutions across the country are expected to sit for the exams. A total of 297 overseas students will also sit for the tests in eight overseas centres under Dhaka Board.
The agitation that began centering the first anniversary of January 5 elections this month claimed at least 35 lives so far including more than half of who are not affiliated to politics.
The written exams will end on March 10 with the practical exams beginning on the next day.
Khaleda Zia, BNP chairperson and also chief of the 20-paty alliance, called the indefinite blockade from January 5 as the government did not allow her party and its allies to hold a rally in the capital.
