Why no free treatment at Pvt hospitals for poor: HC
The High Court today sought explanation from the government why it should not be directed to take a step for providing free treatment facilities to the poor at private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres.
In the rule, the court asked the government to explain why it should not be directed to form a monitoring cell to supervise both the public and private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres and close the unauthorised ones.
The government will have to reply in four weeks.
The HC bench of Justice Mirza Hossain Haider and Justice Mohammad Khurshid Alam Sarker came up with the rule following a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer JR Khan Robin.
The lawyer filed the petition with the HC on March 19 seeking its directives on the government to close unauthorised hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres.
He also sought directives to form monitoring cells to oversee the hospital, clinics and diagnostic centres under Medical Practice, Private Clinics and Laboratory Ordinance-1982.
The health secretary, law secretary, home secretary, director generals of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), president and secretary of Bangladesh Private Clinic and Diagnostic Owners Association have been made respondents to the rule.
