United Hospital releases body after payment deal with family
The United Hospital management has released the body of Mohammad Aslam, who died at the hospital on Friday afternoon, following a deal on payment of dues with his family.
According to the deal, the family will pay the hospital Tk 15 lakh as dues within the next five months.
On Saturday, the hospital management refused to hand over the body to his family until the full payment of Tk 31 lakh is made. Of the total amount, the family had earlier paid Tk 12 lakh and wanted to sign an agreement for paying the rest Tk 19 lakh later.
The family paid Tk 40,000 of the new amount of dues while receiving the body around 6:00pm today, said Aslam’s widow Sabina Sultana.
“We will pay Tk 1 lakh more by Sunday next and the rest Tk 13.60 lakh within the next five months,” she said, adding that the hospital authorities threatened of suing the family if they fails to meet the deal.
Of the earlier dues of Tk 19 lakh, the hospital management considered a discount of Tk 4 lakh on humanitarian ground, said Siraj Uddin, senior accounts executive of the hospital.
Fifty-eight-year-old Aslam was admitted to the hospital on July 3 with lung infection. Since then, he had been on life support at the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of the hospital. He died around 3:00pm on Friday, said the family sources.
