UGC for appointment of administrators to 8 pvt universities
Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) AK Azad Chowdhury on Saturday said they are going to recommend the government to appoint administrators to at least eight private universities for four to six months to eradicate errant extension.
Addressing a press conference, Prof Azad said they are going to request the chancellor of universities -- President Abdul Hamid -- through the education ministry for the appointment of administrators of his choice to eradicate the illegal extension activities by eight to nine private universities.
Under the Private Universities Act 2010, there is a prohibition that private universities cannot open any branch or new campus, but some of the universities have opened their branches, he added.
Azad Chowdhury also noted that the UGC is also mounting pressure on some of the private universities to cut their ‘extremely high’ tuition fees.
