UAE to hire up to 2000 women workers every month
In an important breakthrough, the United Arab Emirates today inked a deal to recruit 1000 to 2000 female domestic workers from Bangladesh every month.
Dhaka is considering the move as resumption of manpower market in the oil-rich Gulf nation, which is the second largest manpower destination for Bangladesh.
The UAE had almost stopped issuing all kinds of entry permits for Bangladeshi passport holders in August, 2012, alleging malpractice in the recruitment process and the use of fake documents by Bangladeshi nationals.
Senior officials traveling the UAE with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told The Daily Star that the country has agreed to initially hire at least 1000 female workers every month and the number could go up gradually.
With the signing of the memorandum of understanding, female workers could be sent to the UAE through favourable terms and conditions so that their security could be ensured.
To this respect, the MoU was signed between the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) of Bangladesh and Amala, the government authorised manpower recruiting company formed through the Social Security Fund of the UAE home ministry.
Director General of BMET Shamsun Nahar and Chairman of Amala group Humaid Mohammed Al Muhiri signed the deal on behalf of their respective sides.
Meanwhile, UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan today announced to appoint a Labour Attaché at its embassy in Dhaka from the beginning of next year to simplify the procedure of recruiting manpower from Bangladesh.
“The female workers will be given all protection like their safety and security, salary and allowances, safe accommodation and travel,” said Khondaker Showkat Hossain, secretary to the expatriates welfare and overseas employment ministry.
The MoU envisage, UAE will hire the Bangladeshi females for housemaid. Each worker will receive minimum Dh 950 equivalent to Bangladeshi Tk 19,633 per month.
