Two cops killed in road mishaps
Two policemen were killed in separate road mishaps in Chittagong and Manikganj today.
In Chittagong, Masudur Rahman, 40, sub-inspector of Mirersarai Police Station and a local of Comilla, was hit by a truck at Nizam Bazar area on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway around 4:00am, our local correspondent reports.
Masud was standing beside a parked van when the truck rammed the vehicle and him from behind. He was taken to a local clinic where a doctor declared him dead.
The body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for post mortem, said Mustafizur Rahman, a duty officer of Mirersarai Police Station.
In Manikganj, Kafil Uddin, 42, a constable of Special Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and a resident of Rajbari district, was run over by a truck on Dhaka-Aricha highway in the Bhatbaur area around 8:30am, our correspondent reports.
He died on the spot, said Aminur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Manikganj Sadar Police Station.
The body was sent to Manikganj general hospital for autopsy. The truck was caught but its driver and helper managed to flee the scene, the OC said.
