Truck runs over mother, daughter in N’ganj
A six-year-old minor and her mother were killed and her sister critically injured as they were run over by a truck in Narayanganj city this morning.
The couple’s another school-going daughter was also injured.
The three were on a rickshaw when a wheat-laden truck ran them over from behind in high speed, our Narayanganj correspondent reports quoting Manjur Kader, officer-in-charge of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station.
Locals caught the truck and set it on fire following the incident that took place in Missionpara area on the Nawab Salimullah road around 10:45am, the correspondent reports.
The deceased were identified as Piyari Akhter Shirin, 32, wife of a businessman Golam Sarwar in the city, and their Jannatul Ferdous Joyeeta, 6.
A rickshaw-puller was also injured in the accident, but details of his injury could not be obtained.
Injured Arpita, 16, Shirin’s daughter and a ninth grader at Morgan Girls High School, was taken to a modern hospital in the city in a grave condition.
“The mother and her minor child died on the spot. Locals caught the truck and set it on fire before police reached the spot and brought situation under control.”
The locals had put up a blockade which was cleared around noon, he added.
