Trader 'picked up by Rab'
A jewellery trader was picked up allegedly by plain-clothes Rab personnel from in front of his house in Hazari Lane area of the port city yesterday.
Mridul Kumar Chowdhury, 47, owns two jewellery showrooms in two shopping malls in Chittagong.
A group of seven to eight men in plain clothes, introducing themselves as Rab personnel, picked up Mridul at gunpoint at around 10:40am, victim's brother Shimul Chowdhury told The Daily Star.
He urged the home minister to take immediate steps to rescue his brother.
The Rab, however, denied their involvement in any such incident.
"Rab personnel did not conduct any drive in the Hazari Lane area this morning [Tuesday]," Squadron Leader Nazmul Haque, deputy director of Rab-7, told The Daily Star yesterday.
Utpal Barua, sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station, said a case was filed in this connection in the evening.
"We are investigating the case," he said.
