Top drug admin official sent to jail
Abul Khair Chowdhury, director of Drug Administration Directorate and also the complainant of two cases filed over producing adulterated paracetamol syrup, was sent to jail on charge of violating court orders for eighteen times.
The judges of the Drug Court in Dhaka issued arrest warrant and summon asking him to appear before it eighteenth time between May 31, 2012 and June 22 this year. But he did not pay any heed to the court order.
Today, he appeared before the court to give his statement in the two cases filed in 1992 against BCI Bangladesh for producing toxic paracetamol syrup that allegedly killed 76 children.
After recording his statement, Judge Abdur Rashid of the court asked him why he did not comply with the court orders but he failed to give any satisfactory reply.
Then, the court ordered to send him to jail custody saying that he will remain in custody until the court completes recording his statement.
The court set Sunday as the next date of hearing and also asked the authorities concerned to produce him before the court on that day.
