Tk 200cr damage suit against Prothom Alo

A Tk 200 crore damage suit has been filed against editor and publisher of the Bangla daily Prothom Alo Matiur Rahman and two of its journalists for running four items on land grabbing.

Engineer MA Rashid, owner of the Karnaphuli Ship Builders Limited, filed the case with the Fourth Joint District Judge's Court of Dhaka today.

Judge Abu Taher fixed March 10 to pass an order on the acceptance of the case.

The two journalists who have been made accused in the case are chief news editor and Comilla correspondent of the daily.

The news items headlined "Montrir Porichitoke Railwayer Jomi Boraddho Deyar Udyog (initiative to allot railway land to people loyal to minister)" and "Thikadarer Biyete Tin Montri Hazir (three ministers attend contractor’s wedding)" were published on December 21, 2012 and February 23 this year.

The two other items were published in editorial with headlines “Rail Montrir Jomi Sampradan (land donation by railway minister)” and “Dawat, Sangbordhana Aar Koto (how many invitation, reception)” on December 22, 2012 and February 2.
