Three housewives were beaten to death over dowry and other reasons in Satkhira, Jessore and Dinajpur districts on Saturday.
In Satkhira, a pregnant housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband over dowry at Sultanpur village in Kalaroa upazila early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Sabina Khatun, 19, wife of Imran Fakir of the village.
Kawsar Ali, father of the deceased, said Imran used to torture Sabina for dowry since their marriage one and half years back.
On the fateful night, Imran and his family members beat up Sabina over the issue, leaving her dead on the spot.
Later, they hung her body with the ceiling of the house to show it as a case of suicide.
In Dinajpur, another housewife was beaten to death allegedly by husband in Parbatipur upazila on Saturday afternoon for dowry.
Police recovered her body on Sunday nearly 16 hours after the murder, reports our correspondent.
The deceased was identified as Marufa Begum, 18, wife of Kohinoor Islam of Ghasipara village under Parbatipur upazila of the district.
Parbatipur police, quoting family members of the deceased, said her husband demanded Tk. 30,000 as dowry from the parents. But as they failed to meet the demand Kohinoor started beating her on Saturday, leaving her dead on the spot.
Later, he hung her body from the ceiling and spread in the area that Marufa committed suicide.
At around 11:30am on Sunday, police recovered the body and found several torture marks on her body.
In Jessore, another housewife was killed allegedly by her husband over a family feud, reports our correspondent.
The deceased was identified as Bijli Khatun, 22, wife of Golam Morshed of Bokchor area in the district town.
Locals said, Morshed tortured his wife on Saturday night at about 8:00pm. At one stage, he strangled her and later hung from the ceiling to prove that his wife committed suicide.
Bijli's maternal uncle Bozlur Rashid alleged that Morshed had an extra marital relation with a woman.
As Bijli protested that he used to torture her, he said.
Officer in-charge of Jessore Kotwali police station Enamul Haque said, there were several marks of torture on the body of Bijli.
After getting the autopsy report, we will take necessary action, he added.
