Three bullet-hit robbers held in Satkhira
Three alleged robber were arrested after gunfight with police in Ghoyghoria area under Sadar upazila of the district early yesterday.
The arrestees are Almir Hossain, 25, of Berabari village in Sadar upazila, Sheikh Polash Ahmed, 36, of Chougachha village in Tala upazila of Satkhira, and Matiur Rahman, 28, of Miksimi village in Dumuria upazila of Khulna.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Enamul Haque of Satkhira Sadar Police Station said being tipped off that a gang of robbers were taking preparations for committing robbery in trucks and passenger buses in Ghoyghoria area on Satkhira-Jessore road, law enforcers took position in the area at around 12:30am.
As the robbers intercepted some Satkhira-bound passenger buses and trucks at the point at around 2:45am, police encircled the gang members.
Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened hurled bombs at them and opened fire, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, the OC said.
Polash, Alamgir and Matiur sustained bullet injuries while other gang members managed to flee.
Police arrested the bullet-hit robbers and seized two guns and ten bullets from their possession. The robbers are now undergoing treatment at Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
Two separate cases were filed with Sadar Police Station against 15 to 16 people, including the three arrestees, in connection with the incident, the OC further said.
Alamgir, one of the bullet-hit robbers, told journalists at the hospital that DB police picked up them from different areas of the upazila six days ago and shot them in Ghoyghoria area on Sunday night.
