Tejgaon to become industrial-commercial-residential area
The cabinet today approved a proposal to turn the entire Tejgaon Industrial Area along with its major roads into Tejgaon Industrial-cum-Commercial and Residential Area through a comprehensive master plan.
The decision was taken at the regular weekly meeting of the cabinet held at the Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said the cabinet took a specific decision to undertake a comprehensive master plan for turning the 500-acre-and-20-decimal land of Tejgaon Industrial Area into Tejgaon Industrial-cum-Commercial and Residential Area.
A high-level committee comprising the representatives of different ministries, headed by the housing and public works minister, will review the master plan.
After incorporating the recommendations and opinions of the committee, the master plan will then be placed before the prime minister for her approval before its implementation.
The cabinet secretary said the prime minister at the meeting directed the authorities concerned for formulating the master plan and completing the process in a planned way. "There’s no scope for making it in an unplanned way as if the plan is done in a planned way. It’ll then yield good results," she added.
Musharraf said the master plan would specify what kind of industries would exist in the area as there will be no heavy and labour-intensive industries in the proposed Tejgaon Industrial-cum-Commercial and Residential Area.
While formulating the master plan, he said, the Detailed Area Plan (DAP), land use plan, zoning map, BRT line, existing flyovers, parking facilities, service roads and other necessary facilities would be considered.
The cabinet secretary said the cabinet expected that the master plan would be done in a speedy and correct manner.
There are some 430 plots and sub-plots in the existing Tejgaon Industrial Area.
