'Teenagers' kill neighbour peer
A teenage boy was beaten to death allegedly by his neighbourhood peers in the capital's Pallabi last evening, following rivalry over a trivial matter.
The victim, Mehedi, 16, was a tenth grader at Mirpur Bangla School.
Police said he and his friends had been in fighting with a group of teenagers led by one Oli over taking control of a place at an under-construction building where both groups spent their leisure.
Syed Ziauzzaman, officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station, said Oli's group beat up Sajal, one of Mehedi's friends, at noon.
When Mehedi and three to four of his friends went to Oli in the evening and asked him why they had assaulted Sajal, Oli and his companions started clobbering him, leaving him dead on the spot, the OC said. All of Oli's friends went into hiding, he told The Daily Star. The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College for autopsy.
