Talks move failure to put sovereignty at risk: Brig Shakhawat
Hailing the initiative by concerned citizens’ urge for talks, former Election Commissioner (EC) Brig Gen (retd) M Shakhawat Hossain today said if the steps fail, external interference in Bangladesh will increase.
“And the country's sovereignty will become vulnerable,” Hossain said when he was speaking at a human chain in front of National Museum in Dhaka.
Shushanor Jonno Nagorik (Sujan) organised the programme in protest against the ongoing political violence.
Hossain said the politicians have to realise that the political situation is going out of control and this is not a good sign for them.
“I expect good-sense will rise among them (politicians),” he said urging them to shun violence and do politics for the sake of the country people.
“We urge the government to allow opposition and other political parties to practice democracy,” he added.
Badiul Alam Majumdar, secretary of Sujan, its president M Hafiz Uddin Khan, among others, addressed the human chain saying that this violence needs to stop and the perpetrators must be tried.
