Rangpur by-polls / Saad Ershad wins his father’s seat
HM Ershad’s son Rahgir Al Mahi Saad Ershad won the by-polls in Rangpur-3 constituency yesterday, according to unofficial results. He bagged 58,878 votes while his nearest rival BNP’s Rita Rahman secured 16,947 votes, the results showed last night.
JP wins big in bastion
Jatiya Party mayoral candidate Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa is leading by a wide margin in Rangpur City Corporation polls held peacefully amid tight security yesterday. According to the unofficial results from all the 193 polling centres, Mostafa got 1,60,489 votes. His nearest rival from the ruling Awami League Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu bagged 62,400 votes while BNP candidate Kawsar Zaman Babla secured 35,136 votes.
'No army needed in Rangpur polls'
Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda yesterday said army deployment would not be necessary during the upcoming Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) polls.
