Tagore birth anniversary celebrated in Dinajpur
The 153rd birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated on Thursday in Dinajpur with a discussion and cultural programme.
Dinajpur unit Jatiya Rabidra Sangeet Sammilon Parishad (JRSSP) organised the programme, titled, “Rabindra Mela” at Dinajpur Shilpakala Academy.
The programme started with lighting candles, followed by a choral Tagore song performed by 153 singers, including children.
Later, artistes of the Dinajpur cultural organisation performed songs, recitation and dances. A discussion followed.
At the discussion the speakers described Tagore as a multi-talented personality who made his mark as a writer, philosopher, poet, composer, painter, essayist, educationist and social reformer.
The new generation has much to learn from the bard's creations, added the speakers.
Rabiul Awwal, Nurul Matin, GS of Dinajpur unit JRSSP were among the speakers.
A painting competition was also held based on Tagore's life.
Meanwhile, a daylong book fair showcasing Tagore books also opened at Dinajpur Shilpakala Academy complex.
