Symphony Xplorer P10
The P series by Symphony is back – it might not be bigger than the predecessor but surely multiple times better. The phone that we are reviewing today is Xplorer P10- the mighty successor of P5 which was launched only a month back.
The phone is a bit sleeker compared to P5- despite both having the same display size. Speaking of display, it has a 5.5 inch HD IPS screen with a 720 x 1280 pixels. Meaning 267 pixels cramming per inches. For a phone this big, the screen we definitely expected higher pixel density. The touch screen was near perfect. The display transitions were smooth- thanks to the latest framework for UI transitions of kitkat.
The UI of the phone is a custom one, the usual one that Symphony deploys in most of its handset. The UI at the first glance might feel funky, but as time goes by you start to look for ways to get rid of it. And the way is simple- in fact Symphony has kept the back door open just for you. There is this default app called colors. Go there; select the 'Android' theme and you are back to the delightful icons that come by default with android. Oh did I forget to mention, this phablet comes equipped with kitkat 4.4.2.
The CPU of the phone is a Mediatek MT 6591 Hexacore processor of 1.5GHz clockspeed. And it can handle all the operations pretty fine. We ran HD video clips without any stuttering. Multitasking can also be carried out except for the occasional freezing (less than a second). To compare and understand where this phone stands, we ran AnTuTu Benchmark test. It obtained 25466 as overall score with the remark 'Good Job'. Good job indeed. The 1 GB RAM might seem less but we found it adequate.
The camera is probably the best feature of this phone. The 8MP snapper has an amazing lens- all sample snaps that we took were clear and pristine. Even when zoomed in, we couldn't find any grains. There are some interesting refinements in the camera option. For example, in order to zoom in you need to pinch the screen. Pressing the volume rocker will only ‘take a single snap’- which might seem weird. And it doesn't end there: pressing any of the rockers (up or down) for more than a second will trigger the burst mode which can take up to 20 frames in a single go. Also, if you are great fan of vibrant landscapes you will miss the HDR option. The front facing camera is an ok one- good enough for regular selfies.
2400mAh battery of the device holds strong if you are a non 3G user. If you are using 3G for an hour or two then the battery will drain out pretty rapidly. But still that rate is lower compared to phones with similar sized display. Most likely the low resolution of the screen has something to do with it.
The P10 comes with a USB- charger plug in point and a headphone. The headphone delivered pretty decent sounds with a mediocre bass. Good enough to spend the lazy hours in traffic. The 8GB ROM will only let you store 2/3 GB worth of stuff so be prepared to buy a memory card with this phone.
This device comes packed with all the SNS integrations i.e. Facebook, Twitter. The Google App Store is obviously there, so is the FUN store- a dedicated app store for Symphony handsets only.

VERDICT
The Symphony Xplorer P10 is simply a brilliant phone. The aesthetics and build is great- the matt finished back added a great touch to it. Performance of this phablet is good- especially if you intend to use it for regular use, not hardcore gaming. All the everyday tasks were well handled by the hexacore processor of the device. The rear camera, despite being 8MP, can easily appease you with the mind-blowing snaps that it can take. However the display resolution could have been better. For a 5.5 inch phone, the PPI (pixels per inch) should be slightly higher. All in all- it's a great bargain if you want the “phablet experience” in a budget.
