We remember with deep pride

It is like facing the truth that fills every pore of our collective being with a deep sense of loss, anguish, outrage and, of course, great pride too. The intellectuals whom we honour today embraced martyrdom when victory was in sight. The defeated enemy, out of a beastly appetite for revenge, decided to take the lives of the intellectuals who were to form the backbone of the new nation, whose birth was only hours away. The Al-Badr killers were determined to cripple the nation intellectually, and they succeeded in liquidating some of the best sons of the soil. The intellectuals' dream of living in a liberated country was not fulfilled, but they continue to live in our thoughts and dreams.. We remember the Martyred Intellectuals, the forerunners of our fight for freedom and people's rights.
