Summer sipping
Sometimes all you need to make you go running to the fridge for something cold and sweet to gulp down is to watch someone pour a drink in a glass filled with ice. Living through the hot Dhaka summers is a bit painful at times. Sitting under the fan going so fast it's about to fall off and sipping a chilled refreshing drink makes up for it in so many ways. Try some of the drinks I am sharing with you this week, they will be the drinks I swear by this summer.
Summer sugar high
If you had an awesome childhood, it would mean you had an amazing brother to make you iced Milo during your summer vacations! I hereby give you the perfect (at least so far, to my knowledge) Milo drink!
Ingredients:
1½ heaping tablespoons of Milo
1½ tbsp of condensed milk, 3 tbsp of hot water, 1 cup cold milk, ½ brownie (I like the Kings Confectionary one)
Method:
Put all the ingredients expect the milk and brownie in a blender and mix well. Add the brownie, 6 cubes of ice and cold milk together and blend. Serve over a tall glass with three ice cubes.
Watermelon blast
It's watermelon season now. Everywhere you turn you see heaps of them. It's just the best summer treat. In this heat a little addition of coconut water will keep you hydrated and happy!
Ingredients:
6 cups seedless watermelon, diced,
2 cups coconut water, 1 lemon, sliced
Sprig of mint, Ice
Sugar to taste (optional)
Method:
In a blender, puree watermelon and coconut juice until well blended. Add sugar to taste. Crush some ice. Stir through drink. Add ice cubes to glasses. Pour drink on top of ice. Add a sprig of mint and slice of lime.
Pink smoothie
It is a light, healthy smoothie that makes me happy. Yes, a happy smoothie for happy tummies and a happy summer. Just a suggestion -- if you are not a fan of coconut water use a cup of yoghurt and a splash of water to thin it out.
Ingredients:
About 10 cups cooled watermelon cubes
1 big apple,
1 banana
Handful of strawberries
Handful of mint
1 cup coconut water
Method:
Chuck all into blender and whiz it up. Enjoy fresh.
Juice for a healthy skin
This is a beautiful skin elixir! It's the best for summer and makes your skin smooth from the inside. The other upside to this is that it's yummy!
Ingredient:
½kg carrot, peeled and roughly chopped
2 apples, quartered and cored
1 inch of ginger, peeled
1½ cups of water
Method:
Cut the carrots and apples into medium-sized pieces and layer them in the blender. Add the ginger and water to the blender. Blend until a fairly smooth puree is reached. Filter through cheesecloth or muslin.
