Students lock Buet entrance demanding exam postponement
Boycotting today’s examinations, the students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) staged demonstration and locked the main entrance to the university demanding postponement of their term final exams.
The students of ninth and eleventh batches started their demonstration on the campus around 6:00am.
They partly blocked Palashi intersection, which led to the campus, disrupting transport movement on the road for five hours.
Later, the ninth batch student locked the main gate so that none can appear before the exams, which was scheduled to begin at 9:00am.
On the other hand, the 11th batch students staged a sit-in on the premises of Central Shaheed Minar since 2:00pm, witnesses said.
Following the demonstration, vehicular movement through Palashi intersection was hampered and none could enter the campus, witnesses said.
Additional police were deployed in the campus following the students' demonstration, said Prof Aminul Hoque, dean of Electric and Electronics Engineering faculty of Buet.
On Saturday, students of eighth and 10th batches also boycotted their final term examinations demanding two weeks postponement.
