Student held with 4kg gold
Police arrested a private university student along with 32 gold bars, worth around Tk 1.3 crore, from a bus in Chhagalnaiya upazila of Feni yesterday.
The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Morshed, 21, son of Abul Kasem of Uttar Dolan village under Fatikchhari upazila of Chittagong.
The recovery was made around 11:30am yesterday after a check-post was set up at Muhuriganj area in Feni bypass portion on Dhaka-Chittagong highway, said Chhagalnaiya Police Station OC Moazzem Hossain, adding that they had information on frequent gold-smuggling on the route. As the Dhaka-bound 'Saudi Paribahan' bus reached near the check-post, police raided the vehicle. While the passengers were being searched, Morshed, a student of a private university in Chittagong, tried to flee suddenly.
Police caught him and found the gold bars, weighing around 4kg, hidden inside his pant, said Moazzem.
During preliminary investigation, Morshed said he was offered Tk 7,000 for carrying the gold bars to Dhaka.
A case was filed against the arrestee, said the police official.
