Universities, colleges start reopening from tomorrow

Academic activities in all public universities and colleges across the country will gradually resume from tomorrow.
Noakhali University of Science and Technology and all public and private colleges under the National University (NU) and will reopen tomorrow, while Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) will resume academic activities from Sunday.
Besides, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) and Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) will reopen on September 10 and Chittagong University (CU) on October 23.
Following the clashes between students and law enforcers in Dhaka University and other universities and colleges, the government on August 22 imposed curfew in six divisional headquarters and shut down all universities and colleges directing to vacate all dormitories.
On September 3, Education Adviser Ayub Quadri and vice chancellors of 26 public universities held a meeting at the education ministry. Following the meeting, the government lifted restrictions on reopening the public universities and said that the syndicates concerned would decide on resuming academic activities at the institutions.
Following the government decision, the NU authorities yesterday directed the principals of all the colleges under it to resume academic activities from tomorrow, a press release said.
At an emergency syndicate meeting of Buet yesterday, it was decided that the university will reopen on September 10. The residential halls of the university will open tomorrow, says a Buet press release.
The syndicate meeting of the SAU yesterday decided resuming its academic activities on September 10 and reopening the dormitories on September 9.
Meanwhile, the CU will resume its academic activities after Ramadan on October 24 and the dormitories of the university will open on October 23, a press release said.
The decision about the CU admission process will be taken after a meeting of the admission committee on September 9, the release added.
Meanwhile, the Dhaka University authorities said that a syndicate meeting would be held on September 11 to discuss the reopening of the university. |
