Aug 21 Grenade Attack
Khaleda, Tarique, Babar should be quizzed
Says Sheikh Selim
Staff Correspondent
Awami League (AL) Presidium Member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim yesterday said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman and former state minister for home affairs Lutfuzzaman Babar should be interrogated over the August 21 grenade attack.
The then Inspector General of Police and police commissioner should also be quizzed to bring out the names of the masterminds behind the attack, he said while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on August 21 attack organised by Bangladesh Awami Juba League at the Mahanagar Natyamancha in the city.
"Why police remained silent on that day and why no one of the law enforcement agencies were suspended on charges of negligence in duty?" Selim, who was one of the injured in the attack, posed a question.
Selim also said Bangabandhu would not have been killed had the top army officials resisted the attackers on that day.
He alleged that former president Ziaur Rahman had passed the indemnity ordinance barring the trial of the Bangabandhu killers so that he can avoid the charge.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Jubo League General Secretary and Whip of the Parliament Mirza Azam, columnist Masuda Bhatti and Barrister Sabrina Jerin Oni also spoke at the discussion presided over by acting chairman of Jubo League Omar Faruk Chowdhury. |
